TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOP AT SAINIK SCHOOL KALIKIRI

A two day intensive teacher training workshop was organised at Sainik School Kalikiri in collaboration with the Regional Institution of Education, Mysore on 19 th and 20 th September 2016. Prof. D G Rao, Principal, Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, was the Chief Guest for the opening ceremony. The workshop began with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest and Wg Cdr V S Dangwal. The workshop facilitated teachers hailing from various schools apart from Sainik School Kalikiri. The Principal, Sainik School Kalikiri in his welcome address said the objective of organising the workshop is to enhance teaching skills and update the knowledge and awareness of teachers so that the teaching learning process will be productive and fun for the taught. He expressed his confidence that the Workshop will be able to furnish the teachers with varieties of activities in teaching and learning process and to strengthen the teachers in planning and visualizing lesson.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony the Chief Guest Prof. D G Rao, Principal RIE, Mysore appreciated the role of Sainik Schools as the pillar of the nation producing potential leaders to serve the nation. He emphasised that the teachers need to be equipped with latest teaching skills to meet the contemporary trends. He also added that the present era requires implementation of ICT to empower the teachers and to enrich the learning of students. The questioning ability of the children need to be encouraged as the country needs more creative and innovative talents to meet the unprecedented challenges. The workshop covered various topics including ‘ICT in Education’ by Prof. M U Paily, “Guidance and Counselling” by Dr. K Anil Kumar and “Current trends in Educational Assessment in Schools” by Prof.G Viswanathappa. The three eminent resource persons of RIE, Mysore, enlightened the teachers about the importance of digital and technological literacy to nurture creativity among the children and to assess them effectively. The constructive analysis gave the participants better insights about CCE and its implementation for the effective assessment.

Addressing the gathering after distributing the certificates to the participants of the workshop the Wg Cdr VS Dangwal in his closing address said a well prepared teacher will draw the attention of his students and will leave an indelible impression in the minds of his students. Because a teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. The two days interactive workshop came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by Sqn Ldr T K Sumesh, Administrative Officer, Sainik School Kalikiri.
